My House is Haunted Part 1
Have you ever wondered if your home is haunted? As someone who has lived in a historic haunted house for the last four years, I've often been asked this question. In fact, it doesn't matter whether I'm at the local grocery store or the post office; everyone tells me they have heard my house is haunted and wants to know if it's true. Spoiler alert - it's all true!

What is it like to live in a haunted house?
But what is it really like to live in a place that is rumored to be haunted? Because there is so much to tell, this will be a multi-part blog post. I'll dive into my personal experiences and explore the historical background of my home to uncover the truth behind its supposed ghosts. We'll also address common myths about haunted houses and shed light on the realities of living in one. So get ready to join me on a journey through the unknown as we uncover the secrets of my haunted historic home.
When we first moved into our home, built in 1915, I was a little skeptical of all the haunted rumors. However, it didn't take long at all to see for myself that, in fact, our old house is haunted! Known as "The White House", our home really surprised me at first, as I didn't think it would be haunted. You can see our house here on our website, WhiteHouseRevival.com. The house, for the most part, is light and bright, which I painted in happy colors. Two of the rooms I decided to paint in moody colors, a dark teal and a mossy green, ended up being the most haunted of all the rooms in my home.
The Ghost Actually Speaks
The very first encounter I had after moving in was during a snowstorm... well, a snowstorm according to Texas standards. It was snowing, and it had been for days. My husband was at work, and our grown son was staying over and working upstairs. I was in the kitchen cooking chili, and I heard a whisper in my ear. "Well, hello, darlin'," was clearly spoken. Chills ran up and down my spine.
I thought my son was trying to play a little trick on me. I ran upstairs and found him working on his computer with the door shut. I now know that the voice was that of Dr. George Jones, who originally built our house in 1915. It is hard to explain how I know it to be true, but I just do.

Haunted Library
Nobody believes this next haunted experience I encountered, but it is absolutely true. I was sitting in the upstairs library reading a book when I felt movement out of the corner of my eye. I looked up and saw a little girl riding a tricycle down the very long hallway that runs from my library to the guest bedroom. The little girl was in all black and white, no color at all. But I could tell that she had on a ruffly dress and a long silk bow in her hair.
In the first photo below, that is where I first saw the little girl on the corner of the small rug in my library. The second photo shows the hallway where she rode her tricycle.

Ghost of a Little Girl
The tricycle was so weird, too. It had a wooden, silky covering on top that almost looked like a coffin. She looked right at me as she rode her tricycle and even turned her head to continue looking at me as she traveled down the hall - in fact, her neck turned a little too far to look at me for my comfort! The little girl's ghost scared me so badly that I was completely frozen and couldn't move for several minutes. I named her April because that is the month that I found her. I think of her every day. Even now, when I am reading in my library, I can see a bit of movement if I turn my head and look quickly, but she has never fully shown herself again. She made quite the impact on me.

Haunted Corner with a Doctor's Ghost
The library in my old house seems to be very active with energy. There are two suede chairs in my library that we enjoy reading in when we have free time. The master bedroom is right across the hallway from the library. At night, I can lie on my bed and see right into the library, and one of the chairs is facing right into my bedroom. It never happens during the day, but if I wake up in the middle of the night, I can see a shadow figure sitting in the chair that faces my bedroom. Again, I don't know how I know, but I know that it is Doctor Jones watching over us as we sleep. He never scares me, but always makes me aware that he is there.
Spirit People - Caretakers of the House
The feeling can be a little eerie, but none of the spirits in my house are scary. They are caretakers of the home, watching out to make sure it is loved and cared for. Over the years, 18 different families have purchased and lived in my house. The lore is that many of the previous owners get scared of the spirits and move out! There have only been two owners who have lived in the house long-term. I know in my heart that if the house is being looked after the way the original owners like, they will allow you to stay. We've been told we're doing a good job - more on that later.
A Psychic Medium Reads my House
For Part II of this haunted history, I will share how an unplanned psychic medium visited my house and met the 7 spirit people living here with my husband and me. Also, the photo below just gives you a sneak peek into an important item in my home that has been present since one of the original owners, Mrs. Jones.
